Mother's Scent

by Heather Williams - Libra

She hugs me good night
Tells me Merry Christmas
With that glitter of love in her eye
And the smell of her skin
Takes me back to my grandmother's house
On a cool July night
Thankful for the moon and the stars
After such a hot day
We'd lay in bed in the spare bedroom
Sneak into the kitchen and eat cookies
Just like best friends
And we'd lay in the cool sheets
And your scent would linger
As I talked about boys
And you'd talk about God
The last thing we ever say to one another
Was "I love you"
And I intend to always keep it that way
