Pain

by Traveler - Aries

Come talk to me
If you want to know about pain.
When you hear what I have to tell you, though,
don't think that I'm insane.

I didn't want it, but here I have it.
I didn't hide from it, but it found me.
I didn't run from it, but now it runs me.
One moment, a blink, then snap goes the femur, that's all.
The impact of trying to fly, before I'd learned to fall.

Some say pain is cleansing.
I'd rather use soap for that look.
Some say pain can teach you.
I'd rather read it in a book.
Some say pain can change you.
I'll let you know next year.
Some say pain can make you strong.
It hasn't erased my fear.

Did I have to push the edge?
No.
Did I have to drop that ledge?
No.
Did I have to land so hard?
Yeah. Gravity is a bitch.

Thirty days and thirty nights,
Felt like my leg was in a vice.
Doc says he may need to cut me open again.
Sounds like breaking my leg twice.

Some have the gall to ask,
"Was it worth it? This choice that you made?"
"If you could go back, try again,
Would this be the path you laid?"
I laugh, just once,
Look them in the eye.
"Forty-one years young, baby,
I ain't never gonna die!"

Reason for writing:

Broke my leg doing something I love.
Was it worth it? F*CK YES!
The day I'm content sitting on the couch,
watching the world go by,
please shoot me.
