My ghost of the future

by Danielle Mason-Shakspeare - Sagittarius

I can see her serene smiling face
Covered by this mesh of wire.
She's trying to get out of that place
To an eternity of angels and choirs.

I try to set her free but fail,
She's scared and I hold her hand.
As she looks away, her face pales.
She braves this as much as she can.

She pulls away and looks at me,
Her eyes say she's tired of her life now.
She's tired of her chains and wants to be free
And I understand her somehow.

As I stare at her, she fades away,
I then realise she represents my future.
I know I want to stay here today
but tomorrow I may not be so sure.
