Your Best Friend in Life is Not Your Mirror

by Who? (an alias) - Virgo

staring
there
absorbed in your reflection
and reflecting a little
on your afflictions

mousey hair
flat
in the stale bedroom air
and skin the color of chalk
made ashen
by blue evening light
and so far beyond
repair

don't leave the house
don't you leave
don't you dare
or else
beware
the childish name-calling
of neighboring kids
who'd first dispair
you
from your self-worth

staring
there
absorbed in your reflection
and reflecting a little
on your afflictions
feeling the only one
who could stand to watch
such dereliction
and homeliness
