Visions

by Earl A. Banks - Leo

Through the eyes of child I saw
Nothing but the beauty of the world
For I was young and all things seemed pretty to me
Everyone and everything looked upon in the same way
So naive unaware of what's to come
Only believing good things lie ahead

Through the eyes of an adolescent I see
The beauty fading away fast into darkness
For I am maturing and the world is changing with me
Now I start to see things for what they are
No longer the innocent child to be corrupted
Just a careful teen hoping things get better

Through the eyes of an adult I will see
All the ugliness overlooked as a child
For I will be grown and the world introduced to me
I'll learn all men are created equal but far from it
That to survive one must be prepared
If he wants to embrace the little beauty that remains

Reason for writing:

This poem was written in my teen years while I was bored. The topic came to mind and I let artistic creativity take control. I believe it to be one of my best pieces of work to date.
