Metamorphosis

by B. Knopf - Capricorn

Locked in a cocoon of pubescence
Filled with insecurities, wonderings and “who am I’s”
She met and fell in love with her Destiny.
Nourishment followed in the form of “I love you’s”
As his eyes spoke to her of great devotion.
She began to stretch.
She began to grow.
Looking to him for inspiration, she felt capable of great things.

One day dawned and she found that the cocoon had gone.
Gazing deep into his eyes, she saw
The beautiful butterfly that she had become.
For years, she flew to great heights,
Soaring on his love,
Trusting in his adoration.

Then came darkness, and a great windstorm
That pummeled the butterfly crashing to the earth.
No longer could she fly.
No longer could she breathe.
She lay torn and devastated.
His eyes, that once told all, were now clouded, and unreflective.

Days, weeks and months passed.
The butterfly felt totally alone.
The world kept spinning on its axis.
But life moved at a snail’s pace.

A time of great inner struggles followed.
The butterfly questioned and he answered.
The butterfly listened, and he listened.
Very gradually, cloudy eyes began to clear.
Very gradually, torn wings began to mend.

The butterfly gained new resilience,
Her colors were more brilliant than ever.
The butterfly saw her mate’s sincerity.
She once again found peace in his eyes.
