Compensation

A life altering experience
Far behind me
I now try to compensate
To myself and everybody else.

Now he's someone I can have a traditional
And healthy relationship with.
He showers me with affection and presents
  ( I feel like I'm drowning )
Everyone adores him and we gossip over him like it should be
  ( So why doesn't this hold any joy? )
He does just what he should
And says what is expected
  ( And yet I feel nothing but contempt )

But the terror and pain
I put everyone through
They deserve the safe one
No matter what the cost.
I will do whatever it takes
To compensate.
