A bird born into the world without wings, Without freedom, Being spoiled because everyone thought I was special, Until the next bird Even more special than me was born. One with brains That told him how to use his wings. Jealousy takes me over And now there’s fighting in the tree. Everyone hated me because I lost my place, And then another little bird was born shortly after, And now not jealousy, But anger. Daddy bird likes the others better, Mommy bird is too busy getting worms for the others too look after me. Now the other birds my age get bigger, And I stay small. They try to devour me, Each one only gets a nibble, So that I escape and go home to bleed to myself, Because no one else will help me. New problems, Daddy bird and Mommy bird fight, And Daddy wins. Mommy bird flies from the tree, With everyone except Daddy bird, To find a new tree. The youngest bird becomes angry, He flies around, Hitting everything in his path. Mommy bird gives me the responsibility of Daddy bird in the new tree, Daddy bird becomes angry and sometimes flaps his wings at me. Other birds continue to get big, And I stay small. I am a bird, who can’t fly, I am a woodpecker, who can’t peck, I am the bird, who still hasn’t grown up, The bird who can’t fly to a higher branch to safety, The bird that is stuck to the ground in reach of predators, I am the ugly duckling, That only hopes that one-day I will grow up, Into a beautiful swan.
Reason for writing:
This is pretty much the story of my life up to the age of fourteen, and I am sixteen now, so it's pretty much my entire life, not much has changed. I was doing my english work at school and I was supposed to make a poem with an analogy to an animal so i just started writing, and writing, and didn't even think about it, then I looked back and realized I had summed up my life pretty well.
Birth sign: Gemini
