Vanity

by Matthias L. - Capricorn

put two and two, put all together
still there won't be four
still you won't see the truth

words don't come
or come too late
and then we simply call it "fate"

no one questions
no one asks
but all alike we share the fear
that someone could get near
and so we hide
behind our masks and still believe

and never see we dance on strings
the jester sighs, the minstrel sings
of destinies to come and tales that never end
still we know that both of them pretend

for a certainty, we say,
things were made to change
but we hesitate and sway
and push them out of range

move closer to the fire
to feel the coldness in ourselves
into which the vanity inquires
