Surviving your Parents

by FireFly - Libra

I feel you-
The ambitions and dreams-
The traditions getting in the way-
I want to help you-
But you’re not listening-
And I’m not going to be your-
Emotional sponge-

I just have enough rope-
To pull myself up-
And you’re asking for my hand-
When I’m so dangerously dangling-

And I know love is cruel-
And I know seeing thru all this-
Is like focusing your eyes-
On a blurry screen-

I can see-
The fierce willingness-
To unlearn-
From head to toe-
The web has been spun for you-
For some 20 years-
You’re stuck in the center of it-
And you’re finally making a stand-

Survival is instinctual even from your own clan-
Individuality is to birth the real you-
And this “search for the holy grail”-
Should never end-

I love you-
But I can’t fight this battle-
It’s not mine to fight-
