Once

by Samantha Lowe - Scorpio

Who is that girl
gazing back at me?
where are the tears that once bled beneath
the lack of trust
the lack of love
filled eyes
of abandonment and dissillusion?
she gave her all to feel just one bit of love
to feel life, and laughter, and freedom
from the chains that had once enveloped her
she lost everything that had any meaning at all
lost the hope that once was held in her eyes
they all laughed at her from the beginning
too much of a dreamer
too headstrong
too unlike any other
no one believed
in her
and her once proud dreams

Who is that girl
gazing back at me just now?
the one who stands strong
stronger than ever before
who fights back when pushed to the ground
yet still has her moments of
vulnerability
and extreme suffering
they never thought she would be where she is today
they never thought she'd laugh right back
they never gave her another chance
to take who she was
and metamophasize into what she is today

who is that girl
that once was lost in her boyfriends' ideal person?
who once lied to her friends
herself
and everyone in between?
in order to be accepted

who is that girl
looking back at me
through the mirror of life?
look at her closely
and you'll see a reflection of yourself
in her once hate filled eyes
she has learned the price of love
how to unlock her heart and move on
she has learned weakness
how to keep it together
she has learned
who it is
gazing back at her.
