Before We Get Too Close

by Lance James Green - Cancer

I could say something
To make the conversation deeper, you know
But then, only pain it would bring
When I told you I had to go.

I could give you a call,
But I'd fall in love with your voice.
I would tell you you're my all,
But then you'd have no choice
But to tell me the same,
And then I'd be to blame
If it tore your heart
When I told you we had to part.

I could visit you, though
To me, distance doesn't matter,
But once there, I wouldn't want to go,
And that would cause my heart to shatter.

That is why I have to stop
Before we get too close.

Reason for writing:

This poem pretty much describes trying to push someone away because you don't want to fall in love, even though it might already be too late.
