plastic toy ring

It was my birthday and you said that you had a suprise
you took me to our tree that rested in the park
you said that there was something that I needed to know
you said that you loved me
and then you handed me a blue velvet box
I was way beyond happy could this be what I thought it was
my heart pounded and my smile widen
as I discovered what the little box was hiding
you grabbed my hand and squeezed it
I couldn’t believe what I had seen
it was a fake plastic toy ring
in the shape of a turtle
a little rhinestone eye sparkled in the sun
you said that it was a one
of a kind
What was this all about I didnt know how to react
so I said nothing and just stared at you oddly
you asked me if I liked it
I didn't know what to say I mean it was a plastic turtle
you smiled don't you remember
the first day we met
we were ten years old and I hated you well not really
remember on the playground it was your birthday and I gave this to you
dont you remember sure you do
you gave me my first kiss
I just had to get you a gift
I spent a whole quarter on the girl I loved
went to the arcade and played that game all day
just so I could win that special ring
for my girl
we went out for like a week
then you got mad at me and gave it back
I use to keep it under my pillow
cause I knew that you would one day get it back
because I knew we belonged together
My cheeks flushed and I kissed you on the lips
looked at the small plastic green turtle that rested on my finger tips
smiled at you and said this is the best gift that anyone has ever given me

Reason for writing:

I grew up with this guy named Antony and we were the best of friends we started dating when I was sixteen and when we were both ten he won me a plastic green turtle ring that I still have he went to college in a different state but we like to joke about it.. I still wear it and I never almost take it off :)
