Tiny Miracle To share with you my daughter Makes me stop and reminisce About what I have to be grateful for And how totally astonishing she truly is. A gambler she could grow to be Because she has beaten all the odds. Death almost took my little girl Until I gave her back to God. She was small, smaller than frail. Listless, hopeless and weary The birth of this angel girl Was unexpectedly way too early. The pile of flesh, that lay in her bed Was amazing beyond belief. Just two pounds, four ounces of little child It looked like death would be her only relief. But day after day she fought for her breath With eagerness and with power Her life was her only mission Every second, every minute, every hour. The pricks and prods of the hospital staff Was part of her daily strife But my daughter, my child was determined to live She endured this as part of her life. Angry at God, I couldn't take it any more I gave her permission to die. I said little girl, I know you're tired I understand if you don't want to try. But she was stronger than me, her faith was unblemished She is here with me today. She presents herself as a woman child She is perfect in every way. Instead of anger, I now thank God For this tiny miracle and mystery My daughter is a gift to life A prize for all humanity. To Lea, I love you. Mom, April 19, 2001 (14 years old)
Reason for writing:
My daughter was premature with many, many problems. She shouldn't be here. But she is and she is perfect. This was written for her 14th birthday.
