Berlin split by politics and wars, Patrolling soldiers upon our doors. The wall went up, the spirits sank deep, All around, grown men would weep. Families broken, lives torn apart, Lovers left with shattered hearts. A manufactured idea to divide the mass, The Communist dreams, alive at last! The Communist idea that failed to last, Has left behind a terrifying past. Of atom bombs and nuclear wars, Of soldiers propping up every door. A race to build a missile that, Would leave a city entirely flat. Iron whales which could dive for years, And disappear with only mother’s tears. The dream collapsed, and with, the wall, Mothers reunited with boys so tall. Brothers passed from west to east, Running free with smiles at least. The wall came down, for you and me, We watched, ignorant, from our T.V. We could not imagine how it must feel, The wounds they suffered will never heal.
