dissapearance

by joel abel - Taurus

on may 12th, 1989
10 days after my
high school graduation
she said:
"i love you,
but this is my home,
if you move away
i cant go with you."

and my airplane was last seen
swirling through violent
blizzard snows,
vector heading
10,000 ft up the north summit of
mt. kilamnanjaro.

on january 23rd, 1992
after i stumbled
twelve miles home
from a drunken
car wreck
she said:
"i feel like i dont even
know you...i cant handle this
shit...i have to leave."

good for you, i said
knowing it was true.
while she was packing
i was reported
m.i.a. presumed dead
tiger strike trail
southeast
cambodia.

on december 18th, 1996
while she planned for
christmas
and secretly bought
presents
i told her:
"look, we arent
working out.
we both know it.

i will allways be your friend."

and amid a burst of radar bleeps
and radio silence
she disappeared somewhere
over the bermuda triangle

on october 9th, 1997
she said:
"baby, im sorry, but,
we have to talk....

and with
100 percent casualties
my every
starship
paper airplane
and 747 came
crashing
down.
