Flight

by E. Alonzo - Sagittarius

I can forget to move my wings
loose my balance high in the air
shoot my eyes open to be aware
feel the air make my eyes sting
feel the feathers rip one at a time
dart toward the ground real fast
grind my teeth hard and gasp
impact the earth with a scrambled mind
taste blood and tears mix together
lay there in pain with broken spirit
curse the sky and hope they hear it
forget flight and walk forever
count infinite footsteps and days
lose track of myself as my heart dries
feel everything ache as my soul cries
stop moving and accept this way
remember the passion I once felt
glance back up above the hills
bite my lip and think of the thrill
sense the fear start to melt
chip off the dry blood and tears
take a deep breath and climb the peak
check to see if the wings are weak
smirk at the sight so clear
lift my chin and close up my eyes
leap off the top with strong wings
listen attentively as the wind sings
stay in motion to reclaim the sky
