Waiting Patiently

by Kelly Melchiore - Leo

How to put into words just how I feel
The things I’ve had to conceal
The anger I feel inside
These emotions I must hide.
I wanted what is best for you
I did not know what to do
The guilt that lives with-in
Just when did all this begin?
How it came to be
That it was you we wouldn’t see
What could I have done?
To save my sister’s daughter & son
The only possible option
Was a legal adoption?
The best is to leave you be
Adopted by your Foster Family
I wanted to stay in touch
But people thought it was too much
With this I do not agree
However, I could not keep you with me.
I have no doubt you are in good hands
& hope some day that you will understand
I had to let you go
So that you were able grow.
I will think of you every day
As I sit hope, wonder & pray
That the day will come
That I will see my Sister’s daughter & son
I will wait patiently
For you to come meet you’re biological family
