The Velveteen Bunny & Me

by Sammy - Capricorn

There on the floor, of a cupboard so small,
Sat the Velveteen Rabbit, Skin Horse and all.
Amid magical toys, some shiny and new,
He sat there waiting, waiting for you.
His white spotted brown coat,
his pink sateen ears
Real thread whiskers, all showing the wear.
For he'd been well loved, o'er the years,
But now he sat lonely, in tears and forlorn.
Sometimes, he wished, he'd ne'er been born.
For although well loved in earlier days
Somewhere, Somehow, that love went away.
In arms oh so loving, he had been held,
with a bossom so soft there, for his head.
And as time slowly, passed him by,
He wondered, and pondered, why,
Why the loved one he once new, decided at last,
That he, the Velveteen Bunny, Was a thing of the past.
Having given the very best that he could,
Giving love, hope, dreams,
he new that he would,
Remain on the floor of the cupboard so small,
For the rest of his days, not loved at all.

"Was he real, Grandpa" ?

"Yes, my boy, he was very real".

"And he lives on in the hearts of those who loved him".

"And because of that, he will always be 'real' to those who loved him".
