the Littlest Reindeer

by Tammie - Pisces

Here's a little story and it's not very old,
About a foggy Christmas Eve when Rudolph caught a cold.
I'm sure you've heard the song about 'his nose it glowed so bright',
Well, this night his nose was very red
But he was sneezing out the light!

Santa was beside himself and the elves were in a flap
Because Blitzen lost his glasses and Donder couldn't read a map.
Comet liked to fly in clouds but wouldn't do the deed,
Dancer knew the route by heart but didn't like to lead.
The rest were less like reindeer and more like frightened chickens.
They'd rather stay warm in their stalls and read that book by Dickens.

It seemed that Christmas wouldn't fly and things were bleak and barren,
And then the elves remembered the littlest reindeer....
The one Mrs. Claus called Karen.
Karen was so tiny that the elves called her a runt,
But she had something better than a lamp that shone in front.
Karen was very bright and glowed in every way,
She'd have no problem seeing where to land and park the sleigh.
No matter how thick the fog or snow through which they'd plow,
Karen told them what to do, and where, and when, and how.

She flew so fast and sure that they returned in record time
And as they slid up to the barn they stopped upon a dime.
Santa Claus was very pleased and said, "Karen did just dandy."
He put her in the nicest stall and gave her Christmas candy.

Reason for writing:

I wrote this 7 years ago for my step-daughter as a gift (she hates me right now...think it has anything to do with this poem?)
