My life's work is teaching the younger, It's both scary and trying for they have such a hunger. Teaching the younger can be so much fun, Whether you're in a classroom or out in the sun. Teaching the younger can be quite trying, Sometimes you get laughter, sometimes you get crying. Some things they may do just might leave you dazing, But no matter what these kids are amazing. Some of these children have faced many fears, Which is quite amazing considering they are so young in years, There's the children that explore yet still are curious, While others just seem to be furious. Many children will gather to sing an old song, Yet others believe they do not belong. There are certain children that carry such hate, Do we really believe they are destined by fate? Some children are raised in amongst drugs, What these children need are kisses and hugs. Why do parents put kids in this kind of place, Don't they realize what their children will have to face? Even young children need their own time, Come on parents is that such a crime. No matter how young individually they dream, But no matter what they still act as a team. A word to all parents and this is a fact, When you're children cut up it is not just an act. Talk to each other and I would bet, That it would feel as good as when you first met. Teaching the younger seems a task so small, But one day they will surpass us all. My one true job is to inspire, For out of the ash you may kindle a fire.
Reason for writing:
I wrote this poem for my sister, she is a headstart teacher in Missouri. I have heard her talk about many of the younger children that goes through the program, it just seemed natural to write about it.
