Manchester Morning (for distribution)

Manchester Morning

I stepped on the Metrolink, a stranger in town
no change in my pocket, as the rain poured down
surely a transport thats organised and cares
would employ local people to collect many fares

They swept through the train, like big brother gone wild
no-one escaped, man, woman, or child
your moneys no good, its to late for your fee
line up on the platform and listen to me

This is the state of our culture today
cold, callous enterprise, who'll have its own way
there were children lined up on that Manchester morning
if there's legalised extortion, I witnessed the dawning

In a letter of complaint, although the answer I knew
I was told that the fines are not revenue
I challenged this tale, but there was no clarity
the cash disappeared, to no known charity

A wide birth recommended, but travel with stealth
if visit you must, judge for yourself
unfriendly, and ugly, miserable and sad
I've searched for some good, but I've only found bad

I've travelled in Frisco, in Paris, and Budapest
for business and pleasure, from east to the west
from station to nation, great friends I have met
but a Manchester morning, I'd rather forget
