Leaving

by Liverpool Lass - Pisces

Jane had had enough and wouldn't stay
To cook and clean for another day.
She'd stayed until the children had grown
But now they'd gone she felt so alone.
She was sick and tired of this empty life
And just being called "Jack's wife"

She cleaned the house and packed her case
But was going now because she couldn't face
Jack who wouldn't understand why she wanted to go.
As in his own way he loved her so.
But all he did was flop in a chair
And didn't seem to know she was there.

She closed the door and reached the gate
Then she heard a voice shout "Wait"
It was her neighbour Mrs. Lee
The last person she wanted to see.
She hid her case under a bush
And turned to face her without a blush.

"Saw your Jack the other night" she said
"He was in the club" then she shook her head.
"Maisie Brown was flirting with him and
You know she'd make a light bulb look dim".
"Now you've been warned and better watch out
Because she's a man-eater without a doubt"

"Thanks for telling me" Jane said.
"That one would turn any man's head"
Mrs. Lee said "Oh well, now I must make dinner"
Suddenly Jane wished that she was slimmer.
She'd never thought her Jack would roam.
Then she picked up her case and went back home.
