wilting roses planted in dried dirt

by Lexi - Leo

but if i am to stop loving you...

if i am to allow
the essence of what we were
what we are
what we should remain
to descend the vortex
deep into the disparaging
recesses of my mind
would not the love
so labourisly sought
and found
be but for naught?

would that love
not die a death
of which there is no reincarnate?
would it but only be
held captive by a sorrowful
longing
for the cascading sweetnesses
which once so generously filled
its ravenous hunger?

because you are...

amid the dark masses
and tangled webs of
confusion
lost in the abandon
of those which i evoked
you have again conjured a journey
of discontent and disbelief
a trek in which
each step
each breath
each heartbeat
lays the foundation
for a fortress
which i alone cannot surmount

but if i am to stop loving you...

would fault not find me more
for what i would do
than that which i have already done?
