At the playground with my dog A girl and boy running up and down Do you want to pet my dog? I say I promise, she won't bite The boy cautiously extends his arm You sure he won't bite me My katie won't bit I promise The girl repeas the same questions It's okay Katie's a nice dog They run on the playground I'll get you christopher She screams, giggling More than once But she never does. But is happy anyway Why can't I be like that? That's my dad, the girl, christina says Pointing at a group of men, boys really, playing basketball Which one is your dad? I ask That one. I can't tell though Works for me. Making small talk I love kids How old are you The boy is sliding down the slide not listening I'm 3 she says How old is he? Pointing at her brother She runs towards her daddy I'll go ask Where did she go? I ask christopher To talk to daddy She comes How old is he? Daddy said 13 13. is daddy 13 I know christopher isn't got to hand it to daddy though I get up to leave Want to pet my dog again? Where you going? Home. Why? I don't know. My dog. She tells me I could tie her up No They touch her, just barely I love kids I walk down the street Thinking about how much I used to love live Still do love it Sort of I walk against the traffic, each car creating wind in my face One stops Hey Laura how ya doin'? I shrug. 2 boys Who areyou? I think. How do you know who I am? Nice dog Thanks. I walk away. Home. Thinking about how I wish I was a kid again. Wait. I still am And usually wish I wasn't I get home Mom. I was getting worried Sorry I say Sarcastically Did you have a good time? I guess, I say I liked it.
