Off in the distance I see the reason why. Off in the distance I hear a person cry. It should have been me; it should have been me nailed to that tree. The morning turned to night and I knew that he was right. It should have been me nailed to that tree. The morning broke you shook me and I awoke. You whispered in my ear. You told me to have no fear; you would always be near. Now I see your love for me. You paid the debt and set me free. Off in the distance I see the reason why. Off in the distance I hear a person cry. It couldn't have been me; it simply couldn't have been me nailed to that tree. Off in the distance I see the reason why. My heart was not my own when you rolled away the stone. Off in the distance I see you sitting at Your throne. Fred Jones Copyright ©2001 Fred Jones
Reason for writing:
The tree symbolizes the cross. In Isaiah 53 The great Jewish prophet Isaiah descibed how the messiah would come into the world, how he would live, what he would look like and how he would die. Isaiah used the word tree because the word cross had not yet been invented. The prophecy occured 1500 to 700 years before the birth of Christ.
