memories of a better life

by tattooedbeatmessiah - Libra

i used to have a picture of you
taped to my rearview mirror,
it was the one where you smiled,
your white, straight teeth a
moonshine in the sunlight,
we were at the beach,
do you remember that day?
i lost our money somewhere in the surf and
you bitched the whole way home,
we still had fun, back then,
before i lost my way home that one nite,
i always thought i could come back
to you, the door would always be open,
but that door was locked years ago
only to open to another,
who now wears your ring,
lives in my house and
sleeps in my bed.
i married a bottle of bourbon,
a whore and a white monkey the nite i left you,
i got what i deserved,
i left my heart at your doorstep
when i turned and ran away.
that picture no longer hangs
in my rear view mirror,
i traded it in for memories and loneliness.

Reason for writing:

oh jesus just another draft, trying to get it all together
