I would first like to give my thoughts and prayers to all of you, and all of your family members and friends. This is an event that I never thought I would be experiencing. The terrorist wanted to get our attention, shake our foundations, and change this nation. They have done that...it was definate that after such a catastrophic and radical event we would change...as a country...as individuals. However, it is not definate HOW we change. We are a strong nation, and this has not been more evident than in the past 24 hours. Our overwhelming sense of community and caring for one another, such as the crowding of blood donation centers, should, and is, overshadowing some of the selfishness, such as the panic at gas stations. We need to make this quality in our nation flourish, and not only have faith in our religions, but also in our government and economy. We should try and be of one mind..an American mind. I've known all of you for quite some time, and I know what good people you are, and that you are d oing everything within your power to help yourself and others get through this trying time. We should acknowledge this is neither the time nor the place to lay blame on anyone or anything other than the individuals who directly acted out these horrific feets. Now is not the time to judge our government or society...maybe in the future, but not now. If anything, we need to work as a community and set aside our personal views and agendas. Politicians have forgotten their party aliances, and President Bush chose our peace of mind, over his complete safety. People are acting without even given a second thought to what they are sacrifcing. In our time of need, leaders, whether our president, volunteers, blood donators, or a man waving an American flad on an overpass, are giving us a sense of structure, faith, strength, and hope. We have to concentrate on these accomplishments...not dwell on failures. May peace, faith, and strength be with you all.
Reason for writing:
I wrote this e-mail about five minutes ago to friends and family of mine. Most of you are just like family to me, and I thought I couldn't write a poem that could match my sentiments in this letter. This is a response to an e-mail from a friend who believes we are being punished by God for our corrupted society..corrupted by our governement and economy. I apologize from putting a letter on a poem web-site, but I felt too compelled not to post it.
