"An Untitled Ballad about a Dying Man"
By: Eric J. Williams

He laid on the ground, bloody and dying
The air was filled with the sound of crying
The man could feel the blood in his hand
His face was planted in the sand
And the man was dying

As he laid there he looked back on his day
It started off normal, everything was okay
As he left for work he kissed his wife
But later would be the end of his life
And the man was dying

His office was almost a prison cell
His boss walked in and gave him hell
His boss said "Those reports you did were done all wrong"
The man was shocked; those reports took him so long
And the man was dying

Later at lunch he sat to dine
The waitress he had was really fine
As she served him he tried to flirt
But she was rude, and very curt
And the man was dying

After lunch he returned to work
He hated his boss, he hated the jerk
The man couldn't get those reports out of his mind
He hated doing work of any kind
And the man was dying

After work he sat in his car
Instead of home he drove to a bar
He sat in the bar and had a drink
Then his mind went on the blink
And the man was dying

The man got drunk and was kicked out of the bar
He stumbled down the street but didn't get far
Soon the man found himself in a park
Another man leaped out from the dark
And the man was dying

The second man held out a gun
The first man thought this was just for fun
The second yelled, "Give me all your money!"
The first man laughed thinking this was funny
And the man was dying

The second man wasn't joking at all
He pulled the trigger making the first man fall
The first man fell to the sand
Blood began to fill his hand
And he was dying

Reason for writing:

Well I wrote this poem as an assignment for my 10th grade english class. The inspiration for this poem came from the way some movie's opening scene take place at the end of the movie then flashbacks to where the story really starts. You'll understand what I mean once you read the poem.
