Contemplation

by Catherine Backes - Scorpio

One night you serenaded me
With the temptation of song lyrics
And vibrant praise-
You colored my night with simile

I found you harbored in words
Anchored to impeding thoughts of weakness
Yet you swam to me
Strumming melancholy chords

We swooned-intoxicated by connotation
And we stayed-clinging to context
I know your heart
Yet I stand in contemplation

Reason for writing:

A very good friend of mine came to me one difficult night and turned it around for me. He revealed a side of himself that I knew existed, but I had never seen. The result was this poem.
