I Don't Understand

I don’t understand
Why in this world we live in
They separate women from men
And blacks from whites

I don’t understand 
Why we can’t all just get along
Why can’t we just put this foolish thing to a stop?
Why can’t they just see the wrong in it?

I don’t understand
Why they say such mean things
Then pretend to be our friends
Why can’t we all just live like kings?

I don’t understand
Why we label everyone
Why we name these groups of people 
Then we act like everything’s just fine

I don’t understand
Why they can’t see us for us 
Why do they see us for the color of our skin?
When we ask society why, they just answer “cause” 

I don’t understand 
Why we all have so much pride
We can’t even take any time
To see what’s on the inside
