chasing summer

by phillip bligh - Leo

Once i was a youth in a cool stream
pantlegs rolled up to my knees
laughing at the dragon flies doing there dare-devil spins
my free heart beating wildly as i chased them to and fro.

And then I caught a glimpse of it
Atop a fallen log in a patch of soft green moss
A pure white flower with golden stamins
daringly large and temptingly full.

My heart stopped then seemed to crawl forward
as i shuffled to get a closer look
alas the log was surrounded by deep murky water
and i felt the sting of youth's impatience ripping
at my seams.

So a fool pushed me in,
and that fool nearly drowned me
but i made it to the log
and climbed onto a bed of soft moss

i found that flower again
twice in beauty and smell as sweet
Who's softest white and brightest gold
glimmered in my eyes and peered into my soul

For that momment we were one
awed by each others presence
but then fool took over
gave his curiosity the upper hand

I plucked that flower from its stem
and held it closer as if it were mine
but somehow our glow was gone.
In my hand lay a trajic end

you died in my arms, wilted
and as my tears, to ground did surely fall.
with broken heart did chase away the summer
as foolish youths often did

Reason for writing:

    there are so Many....
