the color scheme,pt.1

by Antwan Fields - Aries

i have listened to all sides of the argument
now its my turn to speak
let me tell everyone how i feel
so unique
for unlike you i refuse to put a color on any kind of song
for that would be a crime and i would be so wrong
on sports you can say golf is a white man's sport and i'd get upset
you fall for the okey-doke and you deserve what you get
you say that basketball is a black man's sport and im forced to remind you
that before there was laimbeer there was walton, and before him russell, and before him mikan
but let me turn around and say that i'm not going to defend those who claim that the races should be apart
hell, youre not keeping me alive, that job belongs to my heart
i listen to those who claim that we should stay with our race
and then i ask them: why do you want us to go back at such a pace?
this is not the thirties, and we're not in the south
we can speak freely and not have to shut our mouth
and speaking of speaking, what's this about "talking white?"
thats the stupidest shit i've ever heard since i watched "in the heat of the night"
thats called speaking english, its called talking
and if you don't want to do it, just start walking
you scream about "the white man this, the white man that" and while others would agree
i look at you and notice you have no degree
and you claim racism, and some of the time youre right
cause sometimes they hire those that are a little bit light
that being said, here's the thing: just look around
now's not A good time to start bringing us down
we can claim we are united, a people as one
but still there has been no liberty won
and yes, while it hurts being told to go back to africa
i say "i was here first! you go back to hell!"
but i have copped out, i'm just too honest indeed
but i know these words today i can already tell
you'll never heed
my hispanic and white friends, that listen to ludacris or nelly
that know every bit of dialogue from belly
they have no problems with my musical taste
some claim it as a waste
but it is an education, for to listen to only one kind of music because its "black"
is to realize open-mindedness is a quality that you lack.
