A Blessing

by LaJuana Hinton - Scorpio

Darkness is present as the motorcycle falls,
Her son in the dich; the sheriff calls.
He lays in ER, all swollen and unaware;
"He may not make it; off to intensive care."
His mind is asleep, no movement in his body,
If he lives at all, a vegetable he will be.

Days pass by, nights are long, nothing changes.
Nurses speak of comas in different ranges.
Lots of prayer and love from friends
Made coping easier, especially at days end.
Patience, tenderness, plenty of training;
when he comes home, itself a blessing.

So much work - determined, he struggled.
With her help, thru many tasks they muddled.
Her son is fine, although somewhat different,
By the grace of God and the hand He lent.
As he walks and talks and jokes about...
The meaning of life, leaves no doubt.

Reason for writing:

    My son was in a serious motorcycle accident in 1994. There was not much hope from Doctors or anyone and my son proved them ALL wrong. I am hoping that this poem will be some encouragement and inspiration to families suffering with brain injured patients. Anyone can e-mail me, and I will help with any brain injury question I possibly can.
