Our Small Town Restaurant

by Dark Angel - Pisces

I met you with a smile for the very first time
The man of my past whom once was only mine.
I told you about the weather in my small out of state town
While we sat and sipped our Diet Pepsi down.
We talked about how things have been, where our hearts now flow
Causing my walls to vibrate and our friendship to grow.
We had a good time and laughed at every remark
Causing my heart to rupture and set off a spark.
As we left the restaurant things remained the same
Trying so hard to not let you in on my game.

You drove away without any clue
I stood in the parking lot with your taillights in view.
Watching you disappear into your new life
At home now waiting is your daughter and wife.
Now flashbacks of promises you made to me
A love so wrong, two strangers not meant to be.

Earlier you asked me how I've been and I told you a lie
For if I said the truth I would destroy my walls I've built inside.
I told you I was okay and that everything was fine
But there's not one true word in that whole line.
What I really meant to say is I've yet to let go
The love for you I still have, in my tears it shows.
Everything's really not okay, I'm not that strong
And the rains I talked about were the tears I've been crying all along.

What I really meant to say is I'd love to have you here
To sleep within your arms, just to feel you near.
Upon leaving your small town restaurant, I glance at the graffiti on a near by building
The red spray paint still marks our love, forever yielding.
Reminders of us all around, that love that wasn't meant to be
Taillights now vanish down the road, leaving our small town restaurant abandoned and empty.
