Settlin' Down

by Elisa Hinson - Aquarius

I could settle for this
I know I could
I could just
Stay

And settle for
Flannal sheets
And pancakes
In the morning

Every room
Stuffed with kids

I could fall
For this
Sittin' on the
Front porch
With a cold beer
Watchin' him
Push
The little one
On a swing

I know myself
And I could fall
For a little while

But then the nights
Would go stale
And I would tire of
His porn mags
In the master bath

And I would get
Sick of
His friends sittin'
Stoned
On the couch

And one night
I know
I would tire
Of having no
Real conversation
At all

And he would try

And he would fail

To make me settle
Down
