Ride

by DonL - Aquarius

Ride

Should you stumble, should you fall?
Make the most of life, that’s all.
We ride the roller coaster every trip,
Scared, lest we relax our grip.
This crazed indifferent dream will pass,
And find us standing on the grass.
With pounding hearts and chests that heave,
So close to death we need believe.
Or why else do we ride the rails?
To brag out loud with near death tales,
False laughter from the eyes that stream,
With tears of joy and smiles that beam.
Then join the queue to ride again,
To welcome fright and numbing pain.
Hypnotic trance we won’t believe,
When told its madness we should leave,
Not ride the rails at breakneck speed,
Deaf to reason, won’t take heed,
For what is Life without a risk?
Just one more turn will do the trick,
Don’t see the rail that’s broken, torn,
Or the wheel so badly worn.
We’d not believe it anyway,
Nothing from our needs can sway.
The thrill, the rush, come bring it on.
The danger preached was all a con.
See, no hands, we claim.
Up and down and up again.
Round the bend and off the rail,
Bodies falling down like hail.
In crumpled mess upon the earth,
Mid wood and steel and clumps of turf,
The muffled screams and cries ring out,
As anguished kin rush all about,
But as angry cries of blame bestow,
Can’t change our fate of this we know.
For all must board a coaster ride,
Which to take, we don’t decide.

Reason for writing:

I was thinking why we do the thing we do in our lifes, that living is a risky bisiness.
