A Day In History

A Day In History dedicated to the world trade center survivors

I sat in my office that day, drinking my coffee from the Starbucks down the street, I looked at the paper and saw such a bad sight, the stocks are crashing.
And out my window on the 56th floor of the world trade center, the sky lit up with sunlight just coming over the horizon, and I was happy
I was happy that everything had gone my way and I was here, I made it into the real world. I have a daughter who works just two floors below me, a son who is a medic at the New York Hospital, and I have a wife that I love with all my might
I remember a loud uncomfortable shake from above me, and smoke coming down the stairways. They told me to stay calm and just sit at my desk. I figured that it was just a small plane or something that had rammed into the tower. I remember when I felt something else, a more horrifying boom. I raced down the stairway, while looking out a different stories window to see what was going on, and the skies were dark. Today was judgment day for me and I am here to tell it. I remember as I came all the way down, I ran as fast as my heart could take me, and then I stopped.
My daughter
My daughter…..
The building started to collapse
The one I wasn’t in
And that’s when I got a call on my cell phone, “daddy”? And then as my princess said my name, the other building started to leave
I opened my eyes, with disbelief and tears running down my body
I wanted every part of my body to melt into the ground and let my hide forever
A man pulled my into a store as black smoke poured down the lonely streets
Car were pulled from there spaces and yells could be heard from far in the distance
I tried to call my daughter but there was no answer
The horrifying moment of my life when I finally realized what I have been through to get there, was just the beginning.
The times that I spent with her will be unforgotten
The tears for her will be not be dried up
The special moments I had with her, taking her to the dentist for the first time,
But most of all, when I first saw her and her last words to me, “daddy.”
My daughter will last throughout my life and forever in history.
