After You Left

After You Left
By: Ann M. Hampton

After you left,
The pieces I had to pick up and go on.
The rain began to fall.
I had to make many calls.
I didn't know how to deal.
I asked myself many times if this was for real.

After you left,
Many times, I still await your return,
For if I had any sense at all,
You think by now, I would've learned.
You left and won't be back,
For this time I'm not guessing,
For this time it's a fact.

We're divorced.

Reason for writing:

    The final papers--divorce...
