Silver Moon

by PunkyThespian - Libra

A sliver of a moon hangs over me tonight
Low and distant in the dead blackness of the sky
No clouds dim the bright light
Although there's a sadness about the glow
That digs deeper than the outer appearance
The blindness of the naked eye will never see it
But to look too close is to look right through it
The sorrow pierces the heart of my eyes
The heart of my soul
Deeper than has ever been touched before
Which sends an odd shiver to the base of my spine
An uncanny satisfying feeling nonetheless
And as I watch it descend lower into the horizon
Though the clock has not yet chimed midnight
I am reminded of the double edge blade we call life
The beautiful birth of a new baby
Like the rebirth of a new day
Eventually ending in inevitable death
Like the blackening of the coming of night
