It's true
All through high school
You push and pray
That someday
You'll escape
The small town life...
Everyone knowing
What you did that morning
Talking about it over lunch
All the soap opera drama
Because of everyone knows
Everyone else...
But
You begin to miss
The things
You weren't able to appreciate
When you were a brat...
The neighborhood
Chipping in
When there was a death
Or someone was sick-
Someone giving you a ride
In the middle of the pouring rain-
Playing until late at night
nine o'clock, anyway
Not worrying about drive-bys
Or pediphiles-
Never locking doors-
Freindly chit-chat
With people who care...
It's like a family
Sure you might not like everybody
But they're there
And it's not all bad.
Reason for writing:
I grew up in a small town too (this is a "reply to JD's poem)...and it definately has some downsides to it...but now that I'm living in a big city, I sure do miss some aspects of it.
