The Spider and the Fly

by Beth - Scorpio

The lights are on but no one's home
You don't seem to have a clue
You think you are so very deep
but the shallowness shines through...

Blink twice if you can hear me
Your words are meant to mystify
to enrapture and infatuaute,
consume and leave our souls here to die....

But you don't seem to understand
That sometimes simple words are best
Stop trying to impress me with your vocabulary
just give it all a rest.....

Your so called quiet contemplation
Is nothing but a thinly veiled ploy
You hide by weakly disguised accusations
But cleverer tactics you'll need to employ.....

I could call your bluff,
force you to play your hand
I could blast in with confrontation
then you'd know for certain where you stand....

But you think you're the spider
And I'm supposed to be the fly
Did you know your web was tattered?
Or that I'd seen through your disguise?

Sometimes friends can hurt us
they hurt us most speaking the truth
While our enemies decieve us
with honeyed words and lies mistaken for a truth...

So don't violate my intelligence
by masquerading as my friend
Don't insult my sensibilties
Don't start something you can't end.....

You pretend to be so intelligent,
so harmless , so gracious towards me
Did you really think I was that blind
Did you really think me that naive?
