Blood Red Rose

by zara - Aries

Their love was like a blood red rose,
All Beauty's great demand,
Was that this truly fragile thing,
Was held by gentle hand.
And for a while, as these things go,
It was truly cherished dear,
Until one day, as both hearts beat,
The rose was held too near.
For love is such a tender thing,
That cannot be possessed,
By mortal man or woman,
Although by love they are still blessed;
True love is not possession,
And this they didn't know,
And so they held the flower close,
And would not let it go.
So all the blood red petals,
Fell down onto the ground,
And when they looked into their palms,
No rose was to be found.
So let this be a lesson,
To those who would possess;
That love is fed with freedom,
And killed by jealousness.
