This Urge

by Ray Leitzell - Aquarius

I was cleaning out my attic one Saturday,
	I figured I’d sell a few things…
… see what kind of money they would bring…
… to satisfy this urge I happened to have this day!

I really don’t know what’s missing in my life,
	I have all of life’s luxuries…
… the music I love are all on CD’s…
… I even got three kids and a beautiful wife!

But as I stacked that yard sale pile against my wall,
dollar bills reflected in my eye…
…all I thought of was the things I would buy
… then I wouldn’t be missing anything at all!

And then I came across my old phonograph, you see,
and a box that was filled high…
… with all of my old 45’s…
	… and some 78’s and even a few 33’s!

And as I thumbed through this stack of old memories,
	this urge I had inside…
… told me I could bring back alive…
… the music that once mattered the most to me!

So, I put some electricity into this old record player of
                                                     mine,
	and it wasn’t before long…
… I was hearing all those old songs…
… gosh, I even brought back Patsy Cline!

Well, I listened to Patsy, I’d say, for two hours straight,
	and wouldn’t you know…
… eight records down I found Hank Snow…
… he happened to be on one of my old 78’s!

Hank Williams, Sr., was as country as country could be felt,
	and Conway Twitty…
		… it sure was a pity…
… the hearts of all the girls, he did melt!

But I can tell you now as I listened to all those old songs,
I can sure as heck bet…
		… it was Tammy Wynette…
… that made me figure out what was all wrong!

And as I packed my old phonograph and records away, I
                                                   thought,
	this sudden urge I felt…
… went away when I heard Kitty Wells…
… I sure am glad I have all those memories I bought!

Well, I ended up putting that yard sale pile away,
I no longer had this urge inside…
… my old phonograph and records all survived…
… until another yard sale I’m sure to have one day!

I thank God for those who have left me these memories,
and as for me, I still have my 78’s…
		… 33’s and old 45’s time can’t erase…
… at least until this urge occurs again to me!

and as for me, I still have my 78’s…
		… 33’s and old 45’s time can’t erase…
… at least until this urge occurs again to me!

Reason for writing:

Wanted to pay tribute to those who have gone before me and have left me so many good memories (albeit plastic ones!)
