They called me up from Delaware…
… sometime back in fifty-nine.
My country needed my service…
… to keep my brother in line.
Seems like he’s done an injustice…
… to you and me.
It sure does look like he wants to change…
… our forefather’s dreams.
So, I fought against my brother…
… for four frightening years.
And I lived to tell my story…
… to those who have ears to hear.
Lord, how can I love my brother…
… when he’s done so much to me?
I wanna know how hard…
… can a hardened heart can be?
I try to live Your Word…
… each and every day.
But it’s so, so hard…
… when my brother acts up this way!
Years have come and gone…
… and many wars have been fought.
Brother against brother…
… but all for naught.
And I think about all those wars…
… how they have one commonality.
It’s always me against you…
… and you against me.
And I wonder if I’ll ever live a life…
… like before wars did occur.
I still wonder if I’ll ever go back…
… to being my brother’s keeper.
Lord, how can I love my brother…
… when he’s done so much to me?
I wanna know how hard…
… can a hardened heart can be?
I try to live Your Word…
… each and every day.
But it’s so, so hard…
… when my brother acts up this way!
Lord, You’ve got a very scared warrior…
… who isn’t afraid to fight.
I just don’t want to fight my brother…
… I only want to save his life.
And I know there’ll come a day…
… maybe at the end of time.
When I’ll be able to call my brother…
… a brother of mine.
And this is how I’ll love my brother…
… for all he’s done to me.
I’ll just open the pages of my Bible…
… and I’ll begin to read…
Lord, now I can love my brother…
… no matter what he does to me!
And now I know how hard…
… a hardened heart can be!
‘Cause now I live Your Word…
… each and every day!
And now I find it’s not so hard…
… even though my brother acts up his way!
And now I find it’s not so hard…
… even though my brother acts up his way!

Reason for writing:
My brother and I are complete opposites. He lies, cheats, steals and will walk over any one to get what he wants. He only looks out for number one... him!
I had a falling out with him over this issue many moons ago, and I just wish he would turn the 180 degrees needed so that we could be brothers again. Boy, I sure do miss and love him!
