Two people, they did fall in love…
… and consummated their vows indeed.
Witnessed by heavenly angels…
… and even God up above.
And in their union…
… they planted that seed.
Gosh, they went ahead and created…
… a smiling baby…
… that became me!
I love you…
… mommy…
… and daddy.
Five years have passed… it doesn’t look like it’ll last…
… daddy keeps getting drunk every day.
And mommy, she’s crying… ‘cause she’s quit trying…
… even though she still gets down on her knees to pray.
And the scars on her face…
...and the bad memories she can't erase... … are all due to the vows she made to daddy.
She wondered if they were in haste…
...was it really all just a waste... … she just shook her head as she looked at me.
Two people, they did fall in love…
… and consummated their vows indeed.
Witnessed by heavenly angels…
… and even God up above.
And in their union…
… they planted that seed.
Gosh, they went ahead and created…
… a smiling baby…
… that became me!
I love you…
… mommy…
… and daddy.
I sure can remember… this one day, you see…
… when daddy beat up mommy…
… and then he went ahead and beat up on me.
I remember it so well… boy, my face sure did swell!…
… I ended up staying with Aunt Emily.
I sure can remember that day my daddy…
… beat up on mommy and me.
I only want to love you…
… mommy…
… and daddy.
Two people, they did fall in love…
… and consummated their vows indeed.
Witnessed by heavenly angels…
… and even God up above.
And in their union…
… they planted that seed.
Gosh, they went ahead and created…
… a smiling baby…
… that became me!
I love you…
… mommy…
… and daddy.
Then one Saturday… they came to take me away…
… I sure can remember that day.
‘Cause the dogs had my daddy on the ground…
… and my mommy… they held her at bay.
And even though I did cry out…
… no one seemed to hear.
I just wanted my mommy and daddy…
… and maybe my teddy bear.
I just love you…
… mommy…
… and daddy.
Now I live in a new, strange home…
… with a new mommy and daddy, too.
I even got my own pet dog…
… and a little sister named baby Sue.
But they can never replace…
… the memories I always knew.
And I sure do miss my real mommy and daddy…
… even though I love you baby Sue.
Please, mommy…
… and daddy…
… I love you.
Two people, they did fall in love…
… and consummated their vows indeed.
Witnessed by heavenly angels…
… and even God up above.
And in their union…
… they planted that seed.
Gosh, they went ahead and created…
… a smiling baby…
… that became me!
I only want to love you…
… mommy…
… and daddy.
… oh, could you pretty please…
… come back to live with…
… me?

Reason for writing:
My brother and his ex-wife have been divorced for quite some time... but not in their children's eyes. It just a shame that these kids have to be put in the middle of two fighting parents. I wrote this poem to acknowledge the sad reality of parents fighting for selfish reasons... and at the expense of their kids.
