I write country songs... for all my friends to sing.
I write about country life...
... and about religion and all sorts of things.
My songs contain a message indeed...
... they all have one commonality.
Makes me no difference what I write...
... 'cause I write country songs...
... during the day and into the night.
In my hometown... where I did grow up...
... seemed like everyone knew...
... when I learned... to read and write...
... 'cause I did it at the tender age of two.
"A special gift was given to you," they said,
"Use it wisely and don't let it go to your head...
... and you'll see...
... what you write about...
... will bring harmony...
... to lotsa hearts, there's no doubt.
So, I write country songs... for all my friends to sing.
I write about country life...

My songs can make you happy or sad...
... sometimes they can even make you mad.
Makes me no difference what I write...
... 'cause I write country songs...
... during the day and into the night.
I love to write country...
... it's embedded in my soul.
All I have to do is open up...
... and the words begin to flow.
I never question the good Lord about my gift...
... I just write my country songs and wonder if...
... I'll see...
... what I write today...
... brings harmony...
... to lotsa hearts to stay.
