To My Girl Mindy

by Elisa Hinson - Libra

I couldn't have asked
For anymore
Than what you have
Already given
And I must say
You have given more
Than I would ever
Ask for

Mindy....
This one's for you

Sleeping somewhere
In my room tonight
Is a girl
Unlike any other

She's shared my dreams
She's shared my pain

And so far
She has yet
To walk away

Tonight she sleeps
Quite fitfully
I've watched her strength
And her energy fade

I've watched her fight it
As her legs gave out
And her arms began to shake

And I'm afraid

She used to be
My saving grace
Pulling me out
Of the bars
And motel rooms
So kind and forgiving
Of all my mistakes

Now I help her
Up stairs
And keep up
With the pills
She takes

She's taken the worst
Of me
Drunken rages
Late night rants
And strippers carousing
The halls
Keeping her awake

Now I will
Give her
The best of me
Nothing less than
What she deserves
Hoping I will not
Fall short

She carried me
When I had nothing
Else
Now I will
Carry her
