A mother weeps Her sons & daughters lost their lives For political agendas & bully foreign policies That she has closed her eyes to or never tried to understand A mother weeps Her sons sacrificed their lives For living under oppression & strife, was no life at all Twisting back the thumb of the giant that refused to let them be a man. Mothers weep They know that more lives will be taken For reasons unknown or muddled by propaganda (is it about land, oil, or order) The constant struggles for power. Mothers weep They know they & their children will be annihilated By the same oppressors who control and stifle their lives Who now claim that they are justified, calling on their nameless god. Mother, God, weeps All her children in their stubborn ignorance Have not learned the lessons of the not so distant past Still, not realizing “an eye for an eye” results in all being blind. Cheryl S.
