betrayed by the Raven

by Christie - Aries

A friendship unheard of
a curious raven
and a graceful dove
brought together by a miracle
torn apart by jealously
each promised one another
that no matter what they'd always be together

then one night their faith in each other
was put to the test
a vicious storm came to pass
the raven used her strenth
the dove could not last
she fought against the wind
but soon came to a crash
they were torn apart
the dove became wounded
day and night Raven
searched for her dear friend
after days alas she found Dove
wounded badly and nearly frozen
Raven watched helplessly as her dear friend
dove came closer and closer to death
Raven remained by her side
bringing her food
telling her stories
and protecting her from curious creatures
that only wanted to harm her
loyal in deed she was
then a miracle came to pass
as dove's health became stronger
and so did her love for Raven
the raven was loyal and caring
and dove respected her so
but dove could sing
and sing she did
as they flew together
high in the sky
Raven was jealous
her voice was not as sweet
one day Raven told dove
of a new and exciting place
a place full of magic
a place full of happiness
she desperatly wanted to go there
she begged dove to come along
but dove hesitated
she didn't want to leave her family and home

but because Raven had saved her life
she agreed to go along
they traveled for days and days
soaring high in the sky
at night they found shelter from the bitter cold
three nights they had arrived
however the "magical place"
became nothing more than a desert
dry cracked land
dove seemed confused
but she kept her faith in raven
surely this could not be the place she had meant
it must be a mistake
the two decided to rest
and thirst had settled in

so raven flew high in the sky
and there she spotted a pond
that gleamed in the sunlight
we can drink from here she responded
the dove graciously excepted the cool water

from out of a bush
came a hungry rattlesnake
the owner of the magical pond
Raven knew of this
see long ago
she had promised the snake a tasty treat
in the exchange of his rattle you see
like the dove she to wanted to make beautiful music
jealously had clouded her better judgement
so she made a deal
but soon Raven had changed her mind
she didnot want dove to die
Raven valued their friendship very much
so as the snake eased his way closer to the dove
Raven watched in horror
this wasnt how it was meant to happen
she knew that her and dove could kill the snake together
then she could steal his rattle
But the snake had fooled Raven
he had no intention of ever giving up his rattle
the snake came closer
with his mouth open wide
he suprised raven
she barely escaped into the air
calling out to the dove to do the same
but something was terribly wrong
dove staggered and could not fly
what Raven did not realize
the snake too had drunk from the pond's water
making the water poison with his venom
helplessly dove fell to the ground
the snake curled his tail around sick dove
trying to lure Raven closer
Raven feared the snake
he was strong and powerful
and she could not defeat him alone
Raven feared for dove
if she attack snake
he would bite dove with his strongest poison
and she would surely die
out of nowhere
appeared eagle landing in between them
he was brave and very powerful
way more than the snake
and could easily strike him dead
when he tried
the snake tighten his grip on the dove
snake hissed and replied
if you come any closer
your dear dove will die
Kill raven for me
and leave her body
i will then set dove free

The eagle glanced at Raven
Raven grew frighten
and said
Dove is my friend and she would not wish for you to kill me
snake laughed outloud
if you were her friend Raven why did you bring her here
for me to eat
Eagle quickly agreed
he met dove's eyes and said
I will let you decide
whether or not Raven lives
If dove dies
then so shall the both of you
Snake and Raven both waiting
both stiving for a plan to escape
both very afraid
Dove would not speak
she would not choose
it was true
she was hurt
she closed her eyes
and began to sing
the eagle smiled
she sung from within her heart
closed her eyes
and died
see what you dont know is
dove was doomed from the start
it was the poison that did her in
and as for the raven and snake
eagle killed them both for revenge
